Sweet Baby Boy Turns One - Cake Smash Photos!
I had so much fun shooting this gorgeous little guy's one year cake smash session. It was his first time with the 'bad stuff', aka processed sugar and I think he had a lot of fun playing in the brightly colored icing! With that blond hair and big blue eyes, this cutie is sure to be a heartbreaker later on. Take a look.

If you have a munchkin turning one soon, call me up! It's the perfect weather outside for a cake smash session.

Weekly Challenge Winner(s) #9
Hello everybody and happy Friday!
I have decided to end the weekly challenges, at least for now. I am thinking we might do some holiday themed challenges since the holidays are coming up, but they will be more like monthly challenges.
Since we had only two entries for challenge #9, I declare them BOTH to be winners!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the challenges, and you can see all the submitted photos on Facebook. Be sure to like my Facebook page for updates on new stuff.

Seven Tips for a Great Photo Session!
Okay, so you've decided you want to hire a custom photographer to document you and the person or people you love. Awesome! Here are seven tips that will help you maximize your investment and have a successful photo session that produces results you will treasure for a lifetime.

1.Hire a great photographer. Make sure it’s someone who’s style you love, who poses their clients in a flattering way, and produces consistent work. Also, make sure you like them when you talk to them. If you gut ever says they aren’t the one, then don’t be afraid to look somewhere else. This is an investment and it should be a great experience!
2.Be well rested. Don’t stay out late the night before drinking margaritas or martinis. Save them for after your session! This applies double to children (and especially no drinking for them!). If your child is tired during your photo session, you won’t get as good of results as if they were well rested.
3.Be well fed. I don’t know about you, but I get cranky when I’m hungry. Also, if you’re hungry you will tend to want to rush the session so you can leave and eat. You want to be able to focus on your session without the distraction of a growling stomach!

4.Put effort into your appearance. You are investing in these photos to last a lifetime. You want to look like the best possible you that you can. Wear an outfit that fits well, even while sitting down. Get a haircut about a week prior to your session, if you’re due for one. Make sure your nails are clean and trimmed, and this goes for guys too!
5.Don’t argue before your session. We’re all human and sometimes we humans disagree. But try not to get into a negative headspace immediately before your session. While you might still love your significant other even when you fight, it’s harder to be cozy when you’re feeling irritable.
6.Have open communication with your photographer. Let them know your vision for the session or any insecurity you might have about yourself. Trust them to create something beautiful for you, but make sure you share what’s on your mind BEFORE the session instead of running the risk of being unsatisfied afterwards.
7.Relax, be yourself and have fun! Don’t force anything, don’t stress, don’t yell at the kids to smile ‘or else’. Just go with the flow, have a good time and you will get the best results.

Fellow photographers, if you agree with these tips, feel free to share them on your blog but please link back to my blog in your post. :) Happy Wednesday everybody!

Weekly Challenge #9 - Splash

Welcome to week nine of my new weekly photo challenge. This challenge is open to everybody regardless of camera type or skill level. It’s all about creativity and having fun!
Here is the winner of the eighth week of the challenge!

This sweet shot is by Anna Bejger. A beautiful little girl looking very cozy indeed! To see all the entries head over to the facebook page.
The word for Week #9 is:
Splash
To participate, it’s easy. I will give a weekly word and it’s up to you to interpret that word in photo form. After you take your photo, simply email it to me at brandi@brandithompsonphotography.com and I will upload it to my facebook page to share with everybody. After the submission period is over, I will pick a winner to be featured the following week on the blog along with a new word for the next challenge.
NOTE: I started this challenge to encourage people to take new photos that pertain to the theme. People have primarily been submitting photos they already had on hand. This is okay and for now I will continue to accept them but please consider taking some time and really create a photo especially for the challenge. Thanks!
You have until Thursday, September 22nd at 12:00 PM to email me your photo. If you have a site, blog or anything else you’d like me to link to if you win, please make sure to include it in the description. Also, feel free to tell us about your photo and thought process! This isn't required, you can always just let everybody interpret it themselves.
If you have any questions, just ask me!
