Zaida's first (sponge) bath. Did you know it takes approximately half a second for uncovered baby nails to lay down mommy-guilt inducing scratches on their pretty little faces? Now you know.

Welcome, Baby Zaida!

Day one - January 23rd, 2011

On January 23rd, 2011, the most perfect creature I have ever laid eyes on made her grand entrance. Brian and I are proud to announce miss Zaida Rose Marilyn Thompson. She was born Sunday morning at 10:27 AM, weighing 9 lbs, 8.5 oz and measuring 21 inches long. We are all doing wonderfully, and are absolutely overflowing with love.

More to come soon!

The Waiting Game

I don’t know that I had a pre-conceived notion of how I would feel in the time leading up to having a child. For most of this pregnancy, I was my normal obsessive, list making, detail obsessed, worrying type self. (Hey, at least I admit it.) But, lately I have been enveloped in an almost unnerving calm. Even though everything is not exactly where I would like it to be; I’m not tense and uptight. This lack of stress seems unnatural to me, but it feels divine. It feels like the way somebody should feel before embarking on one of the biggest life changes you can make.

Now, it’s nothing but a waiting game. Our written due date is January 24th, but we all know that means little. She could come tomorrow, and she could come two weeks from now. It feels a little strange to be so completely out of control of something that is happening inside my own body, but it is a powerful reminder of how amazing our bodies really are. I have faith in my body that it knows what to do. I don’t feel fearful of anything, really. There is nothing but a calm sense of anticipation and excitement.

Everybody talks about New Years resolutions, but I only have one. To learn to be the best Mother I can be. To be try and take this feeling of calm with me into the many moments that I will no doubt be stressed, exhausted and frustrated. I can’t claim to know what the future holds; I can only hope to handle it with love in my heart.

Snow in Southtown

After many days of warmer temperatures, we finally got some snow down here in the Southern states. At least, in Texas. I popped out for just a couple of minutes to snap a few photos.

I hope you are all staying safe and warm in this wintery weather. Happy Monday and have a great week!

Under Construction

Not the blog. Not the website. But, our life. Both literally and figuratively! We are in the mad rush of getting things done before baby girl makes her appearance. Everything feels so transitional right now. And on top of it all, it's January 5th and I feel like a bad blogger. The silly little things we cling onto. Even if I have nothing of substance to blog (yet), I feel like I can't let my poor blog languish in silence. So here's some filler for you.

What about you? Is your life under construction? What are you trying to build for 2011 and beyond?

I hope you've all had a good start to the year so far. I promise I will update with something more interesting in the not too distant future.
