Flashback Friday

My Mother and Loren, the dog we had for years growing up. I believe that this is in 1982, because they got Loren before I was born. He was a German Shepard and Spitz mix, so he was relatively small with this curly, fluffy tail.. but he had German Shepard markings. His name is Loren, because that is my father's middle name.

Top Chef, I am not.

Brian and I are wannabe foodies. We love cooking shows, trying new restaurants, and experimenting in the kitchen. Some may consider being a vegetarian a little limiting, but I think it's actually a challenge to see what ways we can be creative.

The other day I was at Whole Foods picking things up for some dinner ideas, and I saw these giant papayas in front of the store. I have never prepared a papaya myself, but I grabbed one, because it was too interesting to pass up. I probably should have googled it before I cut into it, but I get a little crazy sometimes.

Isn't that cool? There is a star inside the papaya when you cut the end off. Unfortunately, it wasn't 100% ripe.. it was about 93.5% of the way there.. but not 100%. Plus, according to the internet, you're supposed to slice it lengthwise. But, if I had.. I wouldn't have found this. Adventures in cooking are full of little treats (and big messes).

Springtime Bird wedding inspirsation from Etsy

Although it's only January, I know many of us are already eager for the warmer weather of Spring. Originally, I was going to do a floral theme, because that's a typical spring look. But, instead I have decided to go with a bird theme.. because birds are very spring like as well!

These sweet little earrings from seller Jayval are both cute and quirky. Plus, they aren't so 'weddingy' that you can't wear them on a regular day as well.

These adorable lariat necklaces from Lana O Crystal would make great bridesmaid gifts.

I love how delicate these bird shaped place cards are, from seller Timeless Paper.

These hanging birdseed favors are fun and unique. Not only are the shaped like birds, but they will bring real birds to your guests yards! From seller 2 Birds in Love.

Customizable bird cake toppers are making me totally squishy. I love these! They are hand painted by seller Red Light Studio.

I always like to include something for the guys too, when I can. Check out these sleek, simple bird cuff links. A perfect subtle accent! From seller Modern Bird.

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoyed all the goodies. Have a great week!

Adopt cats and kittens in Allen, McKinney, Plano, Dallas

Today's batch of kitties from my friends at North Texas Cat Rescue is pretty small. But that's a GREAT thing. Brigitte told me they have had well over 20 adoptions this month already! Isn't that awesome?

Even though we only have five kitties to show you today, they are super, ultra, mega awesome kitties who are all sweetie pies who need homes!

Sparkles

Sully

Vicky

Astrid

Bella

Also, today Brigitte told me about a new kitty they've brought in, who is a special needs kitty. He only has one eye, and he needs surgery to get him cleaned up and on the road to recovery. If you can donate to the North Texas Cat Rescue, please contact them OR you can also join their cause page on facebook!! Thanks for looking :)

Gorgeous, unique, button, felt and fabric bouquets handmade in Dallas!

It warms my heart when I see more and more people making their weddings distinctly them. People aren't tied to traditions like they used to be. While I absolutely love the beauty of real flowers, I am in love with these unique, funky and totally personal bouquets by Ariela and her mom, Brenda, also known as RBK Creations.

Here are a few cool facts:

- The bouquets can be easily customized to fit your wedding theme or colors.
- They last without any kind of glass cases or expensive preservation.
- They are each totally unique. Even if two bouquets are the same color scheme, because of the materials and the method, they will never be identical.
- Some of Ariela's work has been featured in the Knot's Colorado wedding magazine!
- Ariela has sold bouquets all over the world, but she's never actually had a Dallas bride. Hopefully we can correct that. As cool as these bouquets are in pictures, they are even cooler in person.

Check out some of the gorgeous bouquets below!

All the bouquets come finished top to bottom, and have lovely ribbon handles.

Check out the hand embroidered felt flowers!

This is one of my favorites.. I wonder why? :)

The bouquets can come in almost any size, you can have smaller coordinating bunches for your bridal party.

I love the butterflies.

Ariela also makes coordinating boutonnieres.. How cute are these?

I couldn't let Ariela get away without a couple shots of her too. She's in the sisterhood of brunettes with brown eyes, just like me.

Adorable!

If you want to check out Ariela's handcrafted goodies, be sure to head over to her Etsy shop! You will love her work, I promise! Thanks for looking and have a happy Wednesday.
