They are still the world's cutest nephews - Dallas Baby and Child Photography

One of the many, many things that I love about babies and small children is that they have a combination of not caring about the little things, and loving the little things. They don't care if they are covered in drool and crumbs, but they appreciate the fun of an empty box, or an object that you wouldn't think twice about.

I am lucky enough to have some of the absolute cutest nephews in the world. I headed over to my sister in law's place yesterday to hang out a little while, and of course, I have to bring my camera when I know I will be around such cuteness!

Look at his little teeth!

Pretzels are yummy, as evidenced by this picture.

Reading with Mommy.

B had all of his cousin's over yesterday, and here's A, who is a total natural for the camera. His eyes slay me!

The bigger boys were playing outside, and the little ones wanted to go too.

Told you they were the cutest!

Music Video Friday - Duran Duran

I love me some Duran Duran! It's hard to choose my favorite Duran Duran song, but this is definitely in the top five.

Huge and Super Awesome Photo from the Inaguration!

I just stumbled across this amazing photograph by David Bergman from the inauguration of President Obama. It is a 1,474 megapixel photo according to Mr. Bergman! Wow!

Check it out here!

In other news, I am ready for it to get pretty again. I know, we have had many mild days here in Texas, but this week has been super nasty. Lots of stuff lining up for February and March, and I'm super excited to get back outside and get clicking! If you are interested in portrait sessions during the next two months, please contact me, because my weekends are nearly full!

Why pictures matter!

A while back I scanned in a ton of old photos from my grandmother's house. There are quite a few that are damaged, particularly the older ones, and it's been my goal to restore them. Well, I have had very little time over the years with school, work, and the photography business, but I've done a few.

These are just some examples why pictures are SO important. And not only taking pictures, but hey, getting some prints! Nowadays, and I'm guilty too, it's easy to just get a digital image.. but you can't handle a digital image in fifty years.

This one hasn't been finished, I just started on it. It's my Granny with her brother on her wedding day.

My Granny as a little girl! Shut up with the cuteness! This one is one I've restored, but the original damage wasn't severe.

My Granny with my Mother as a baby. I love this photo in ways I cannot describe. I fixed this one a couple of years ago, I don't love the upper left hand corner, but I pretty much had to fake it since I couldn't make it out in the original. If you are curious what the original looks like here!.

Take lots of pictures. Get lots of prints. Preserve lots of memories.

The Photographer's New Shoes

If you've been reading this blog for a while you probably know that one of my obsessions pleasures in life is shoes. Yum. I tend to buy shoes in groups of 2 or 3. Here are the most recent purchases!

I particularly love the middle pair. They look sooo great on! I saw them in Lucky magazine and I knew I had to have them! That magazine is dangerous. :)

Daydreams...

Every time something about Venice comes on TV, Brian and I get that wistful look in our eyes. We went there in March 2007 (that's when Brian proposed to me!) and it was just indescribable. We were there a week, and we didn't ever want to leave!

We just had a point and shoot with us, but here are a couple of snaps!

I love their candy colored houses.

They have a cemetery island that is full of amazing sculptures and headstones. It was beautiful!

Brian and I on a Gondola! I was a little bit chilly, as you might have guessed.

Ah, Venice.. some day we'll be back!

Miss America!

Tonight is the Miss America pageant, now being aired on TLC. I know that the ratings for pageants have been dwindling, so last year there was a mini series held before the pageant, and I had to watch of course. I blame TLC for placing it after one of my long time favorite shows, What Not to Wear. Of course, I watched it again this year as well!

Apparently when I was a baby, or a small toddler, I won third place in a baby pageant. My Mother swears had I not been in a grumpy mood and smiled I would have won first place. That was my only venture into pageantry.

Awww, look at my fat little cheeks!*

When I was younger and I watched pageants, I always wanted the brunettes to win. Not that I was biased or anything.. :)

This year I hope it goes to Miss Indiana, who, at least on TV, appears intelligent, talented and well collected. Good luck Miss Indiana!

*Note: I don't advocate scanning in your printed images! However, this image is almost 25 years old, and I have no idea where it was taken, and I don't plan on printing it out :P

Music Video Friday - Walking on Sunshine

The weather outside today is AMAZING! It's sunny and warm, somewhere in the mid 70s. It's absolutely gorgeous. So I had to get something sunny for the music video today..

Well, okay, so the video isn't sunny. I guess they were going for slightly ironic. However, I love this song. Check out the way she dances at the beginning of the song, that's pretty much the same way I start to dance when I hear this song. :) I'm not ashamed!

Be sure to enjoy the 80s fashion finery as well! ;)

Happy Obama Day!

Welcome to work President Obama!!

In other news, today was my first day of the new school semester. Only 1.5 years left until my anticipated graduation in May 2010. I can't wait.. I feel like I've been going to school forever. This semester has a little bit easier schedule than last semester. I have plenty of availability for sessions on the weekends, as well as Tues, Thurs and Friday afternoon/evenings (as the light gets longer!).

Debbie's 50th Birthday! Dallas Event Photography

Yesterday was the birthday day for me! Two pretty ladies had their birthday celebrations. First we had my friend, little Miss K, and then I ran off to shoot the 50th birthday party of the beautiful Debbie, thrown by her son Adam.

Even though it was my first time meeting this group, I felt touched by being able to witness how much love they have for Debbie. From everything I heard, she is certainly a woman to be admired. Plus, as you will see, she's totally gorgeous! Definite proof that beauty has no age limits.

Thanks so much for having me out to capture your event, and here are a few sneak peeks for you!

They had an adorable picture of Debbie has a kiddo, and some fun confetti. I'm always a sucker for confetti.

I loved the cakes, too cute.

The birthday lady shortly after she arrived.

Debbie got a surprise serenade by a friend.

A signature frame signed by her friends, always an awesome idea.

There was also a handmade album being passed around as well! It's things like this that remind us how important pictures are.

Another one of Debbie's talented friends sang one of her favorite songs.

Then the story telling began.. First some by Debbie's sister..

Mom shared some with us too.

Debbie's son Adam talked about how much of an inspiration his Mom is to him, it was really sweet.

Don't forget about the gifts!

I loved this photo of Debbie with her Mom!

K's 6th Birthday - Dallas Child Photography

Today we went to Miss K's sixth birthday party. We didn't get to stay too long, because I had another birthday party to photograph (see forthcoming blog post!), but I had my camera out of course. When there are cute children present, I must shoot. They may not all be perfect, but they're still cute.. :)

The birthday girl!

The princess cake that the birthday girl baked with Mommy.

Miss D playing with her lipgloss from her goodie bag. Teehee!!

Miss K decided she didn't WANT me to take her picture anymore, lol, so she was hiding from me.

One of the handsome young men who attended the shin dig, Mr B.

Miss T liberally applying frosting to her cookie.

Mmm that's a tasty looking cookie, Mom!

More taste testing.

Works of art!

They taste pretty good too!

Moms need cookies too.

Miss K is really concentrating.

K's Mom! Missed the focus here a bit, but hey.. :) Sometimes photos are good even when they aren't perfect.

Somebody's going to be up late tonight :P

Go, go sugar consumption!

Pretty eyes.. :)

It was hard to narrow it down.. They're all so cute.. :)

Stay tuned for some sneak peeks from the great grown up birthday party that I photographed tonight!
